In order to preserve the History of the old Mercer County Courthouse, which was used from 1868 until 1923, the Mercer County Historical Society acquired the bell from that 1868 Courthouse, in 1975.
The present Mercer County Courthouse was dedicated on September 3, 1923. The Commissioners no longer wanted the old Courthouse bell, and that bell went to the Old Town Church on Riley Road, east of Celina.
